Abstract

This study examines the integration of Qur’anic education and administrative management through a participatory community engagement programme at Mahligai Qur’an Islamic Boarding School, Indonesia. Conducted in August 2026, the programme employed Participatory Action Research (PAR) and Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) to identify institutional needs, mobilise existing resources, and implement targeted interventions. Activities focused on Qur’anic memorisation, recitation, Arabic vocabulary development, and basic records management. The findings revealed persistent challenges in memorisation continuity, pronunciation accuracy, and vocabulary retention. Administrative interventions resulted in an initial inventory register, nine labelled archive folders, and an office-hours notice. These findings demonstrate the feasibility of integrating educational support with basic administrative improvements through community participation and asset mobilisation. However, measurable learning outcomes and long-term institutional impacts remain to be established. The study highlights the potential of participatory, asset-based approaches to support context-sensitive institutional development in Islamic boarding schools.
