Plagiarism Policy

IQTISHODUNA: Jurnal Ekonomi Islam has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism and unethical behavior in publishing. Authors must ensure that every submission meets high academic standards, is original in its entirety, and includes accurate attributions and citations. Any indication of plagiarism identified during screening will result in immediate rejection.

Plagiarism Screening : All manuscripts are systematically screened upon submission using similarity-check and plagiarism-detection tools. The journal applies plagiarism detection to each submitted manuscript, including the use of tools such as Turnitin, and may also use additional detection tools (e.g., iThenticate and Grammarly) as part of editorial assessment. Authors will be informed of similarity-check results when relevant, and are encouraged to check similarity levels prior to submission.

Definition of Plagiarism: Plagiarism occurs when an author uses ideas, information, or words from another source without proper credit. Even if unintentional, plagiarism remains a serious academic violation and is unacceptable in international scholarly publishing.

A citation is required when:

  • the author learns specific information (e.g., names, dates, places, statistics, or detailed factual data) from a particular source; and
  • the author adopts an idea from another author (even if the idea is further developed), including ideas about methodology, data interpretation, arguments, or conclusions.

Only general knowledge may be exempt from citation (e.g., information widely available across many sources and commonly known).

When an author reproduces words from another source, both citation and quotation marks are required. As a guiding rule, if four or more consecutive words are identical to a source the author has consulted, quotation marks must be used; a citation alone is not sufficient.

Editorial Actions and Consequences: The journal takes academic integrity very seriously. The editors reserve the right to:

  • reject any manuscript involving plagiarism or self-plagiarism (before acceptance),
  • withdraw acceptance if violations are found after acceptance, and
  • retract an article if plagiarism or serious misconduct is discovered after publication.

Ethical concerns raised about a submitted or published work will be investigated thoroughly, even if discovered years after publication. The editorial team follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) flowcharts when handling suspected misconduct.

Corrections and Retractions

In cases of alleged or proven scientific misconduct, fraudulent publication, or plagiarism, the publisher—working closely with the editors and, when necessary, the editorial board and ethics commission—will take appropriate measures to clarify the situation and amend the scholarly record. These measures may include publication of an erratum, clarification, or, in severe cases, retraction. The journal also takes reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of manuscripts involving research misconduct and will never encourage or knowingly allow such misconduct.
